Product Overview

Menzolit® SMC 0390 is a glass fibre-reinforced sheet moulding compound based on unsaturated polyester resin. It contains mineral fillers and provides excellent surface quality for structural and exterior components. The material does not melt or form droplets in the event of a fire, generating minimal smoke. It is compression moulded in heated steel moulds and is suitable for truck, commercial vehicle and rail interior applications. Special formulation for battery covers with UL94/2,5 mm is also available.

SMC 0390 is specifically designed for the commercial vehicle and mass transportation sectors. Its improved surface quality supports visually demanding exterior applications, while high strength and dimensional stability reduce maintenance and enhance durability. Fire-retardant and halogen-free properties help meet UL 94 and DIN 5510 S4 standards. The compound is suitable for both structural and aesthetic components in transport applications.

SMC 0390 combines mechanical robustness with excellent surface finish, making it suitable for body panels and interior elements. It maintains dimensional stability at high temperatures and supports continuous service up to 165°C. Very low water absorption (<0.5%) and high electrical insulation (surface resistivity 10¹² Ω) make it versatile for multiple applications. The compound balances thermal, mechanical, and aesthetic requirements for transport industries.

Menzolit® SMC 0390 should be compression-moulded in heated steel moulds using recommended temperatures and pressures. Chrome-plated tools are preferred for optimal surface quality. Rolls can be stored in dry conditions.
